I know what it is like to have both succeeded and failed at running my own business. If there is one thing I know for certain it is this:
Success & Failure are heavily influenced by our MINDSET!
If you want to succeed as a freelance professional, speaker, consultant or coach you must make these 4 critical mindsets shifts, right away!.
Each of these 4 mindsets address the four cornerstones of any successful business. Let's dive into each mindset.
Mind Shift #1: It's Always Your Fault!
What I mean by this is, the "buck" starts and stops with you. You must be willing to take full responsibility for your results. Yes, I realize that outside circumstances, and other people may very well contributed to why your results turned out the way they did.
What's critical for you and I to always keep in the forefront of our minds is, it's not what happens to us, but how we respond in the process that makes all of the difference.
When you decide to fully own your outcomes, you empower yourself to never have to count yourself out no matter how bleak the situation may seem. When you believe the results are up to you, you in turn realize that you don't have to wait for anyone or anything to change first in order to make things better.
This mindset shift always reminds you that YOU always have the power to make an executive decision that can change the course of your destiny.
Mind Shift #2: Imperfect Action Is Always Better Than A Perfect Plan!
A common mistake that new, or young minded solo-preneurs make is spending way to much time than is necessary on making plans. Contrary to popular belief, you don't need a complicated business plan to launch and scale a successful business.
You don't need to wait until your website or blog is just right. You don't need to spend a lot time deliberating over which font needs to be printed on you business card before you start doing business.
In fact, research shows that all of these things I've mentioned above are more time and money wasters than revenue generators.
The most important thing in running a successful business is taking consistent action on solid insight and advice. Even if the actions are not perfect, it's better to take action and get real results, than it is to try to solve every conceivable problem in your head first.
Take action, analyze your results, and adjust your approach based on real world data (not theory). The more imperfect actions you take, the faster you will be able to adjust and improve.
As a result of this mindset, you'll always get a lot further faster when you take decisive action.
Mind Shift #3: It's Not How Many Resources You Have, But How Resourceful You Are!
Listen, you always have everything you really need in this moment to accomplish what you are really called to do at this time.
This statement bares repeating:
"you always have everything you really need in this moment to accomplish what you are really called to do at this time."
I realize at first glance it is easy to disagree with this statement. Yet after some brutally honest contemplation you'll come to realize how profoundly true this simple statement is.
When is comes down to making significant things happens and getting tough things done in and through your life, it's not about having all the best resources before you can get the best results. It's about how resourceful you are with the stuff that you DO HAVE that makes all of the difference.
In fact, often times it's the lack of resources that trigger the ground breaking, game changing innovation. Constraints, due to a lack of resource often spark a depth of creativity you didn't know you had.
It's never the resources you have, but how resourceful you are that matters!
Mind Shift #4: Confidence Is Overrated!
This last mind shift is so important! If you find yourself lacking in confidence or even the belief that you can succeed there is good news:
You are not alone (& it really doesn't matter if you think you are not ready)!
You don't have to be able to believe that you can succeed before you can succeed. Confidence is overrated!
There is one thing that we all have instant access to that is 10x more powerful than confidence. Do you know what it is?
A strong conviction about the problem you solve for your market will do more for your authority and credibility than showing how confident you are. And all you need to do to activate the power of conviction is be willing to:
CARE MORE THAN NORMAL, AND MORE THAN NECESSARY...
about the problem you solve for your clients. When you totally immerse yourself in providing a useful solution to those you care about, not only will you create value, people will be irresistibly attracted to your passion and willingness to help them succeed.
To top it off, you will not come across arrogant or conceded. Instead, people will see you as an authentic, relevant, irresistible resource that makes their life easier in a very useful way.
And what's really cool is, you accomplish all of this even though your are still shaking in your boots!
Conviction trumps confidence all the time. Just be willing to care a lot about solving a pressing problem that your market cares about.
When you embrace these 4 mindset shifts, and write them on the tablet of your heart you will be blessed by the fruit that they produce in your business and life no matte how tough things may get.
