There was a popular saying back in the 90's that captured the materialistic opulence that ran rapid up to that point. The saying was,
"...He who has the most toys wins!"
Conspicuous consumption ruled the day. And let's be honest, even today not much has changed. What is different though is this awaking that I see happening all around us.
More and more people are intentionally choosing to live a life with less clutter, less stuff, and more...
Let's be honest, at the end of the day, the only thing we can really give or receive of any lasting value is an experience.
Why? Well, Maya Angelou expressed it the best when she said:
“I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
Experiences make us FEEL. And they can make us feel alive or make us feel like dead men walking. The key to determining which is which comes down to how we choose to digest them.
No matter if what we experience is "good," "bad," or "ugly" at first, how we choose to digest and savor them makes all the difference in the world.
Here's a simple ritual I try my best to use as I move through life's experiences. I am always reflecting on the moment and asking God at all times:
"Lord, in this moment what are you showing me; and in it what must I appreciate, remove, or improve?"
This is how we can savor every moment and as a result, this is how we Grow!
